"... we had so many good times with each other. It didn't matter if it was pushing our average speeds and pretending that we were climbing l'Alpe d'Huez (Monson Hill) or if it was making 3 sandwiches at lunch time and throwing a Frisbee around... we were doing the right things.
The bike trips taught me this: It doesn't have to be be cycling that does it for you, but find that thing in your life that both makes you happy and makes you a better person. Find why it makes you happy and why it makes you a better person and don't deviate from those things!"

"Most of our friends (and relatives) thought we were absolutely crazy allowing our daughter to go. My parents thought it was dangerous and too long for her to be away and that she should be home with her parents (they quickly became some of the tour's biggest fans, with a US map on their dining room table all summer) . We let her go,with only minor reservations (her inexperience and safety riding), knowing she would learn and grow in ways we could never teach her. We also trusted from the night you and your son came to our house that she was in good hands. I don't really know how to thank you for all you have done. Your grace and passion amaze and inspire me. I am grateful my daughter spent the summer in your care and under your leadership. The changes in her are already showing, they are subtle but dramatic. When asked questions she looks adults in the eye and tells them all about the trip. She seems both more confident and considerate ... Thank you for inspiring, encouraging, teaching and loving our daughter this summer, we are eternally grateful... "

"... I don't know how you managed all of the details but I watched you get up before everyone else and go to bed after everyone, and work tirelessly in order to make sure the trip was moving forward. You not only got all of those people safely across the entire country you did it with a smile on your face and an always encouraging spirit. You have a unique combination of talents with the drive, to accomplish enormous tasks, mixed with a care for people that shows in all you do. For me personally I got to spend an entire month with my son doing something I may never get the chance to do again. And I won't get into the details about him, but that cross country trip enabled him to take make some substantial leaps forward in his life. Prior to that trip he was struggling ... with issues which he has overcome mainly due to the experience he had..."
